Charles Reuben Hale (1837-1900) was born in Lewistown, Pa., and died in Cairo, Ill., where he was the consecrated Episcopal Bishop. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1858, and was ordained in 1860. From 1863 to 1870, Hale was a chaplain in the U.S. Navy.
